Instructions for the Worksheet Packet:
I cannot stress this enough, encourage your kiddo! Encouragement helps instill confidence, which many kids so desperately need. It is likely they will not soar through this spellling curriculum the first time perfectly. They will forget, they will make mistakes. That is part of the nature of learning!
Point out to them things they did better than last time. Have them complete half the page from memory and then the other half using the reference page. Help them master these worksheets at a speed that is appropriate for them!
Practice really does make progress! Show your kiddo the beauty of that truth! Our spelling curriculum worksheets are pretty self explanatory, but I did want to mention a few tips to help!
The entire document is 8 pages long. They gradually become more challenging with the goal of your child being able to completely write all 20 spelling words from memory at the end of the packet.
The size of the font in the spelling curriculum is intentionally picked. It is large enough to be seen well, but small enough so that your kiddo will have to write with neat handwriting to fit letters in appropriate spaces.
You might start by printing out all of the pages for a complete spelling curriculum set. However, as your child keeps working through the pages, you might find you need to camp out on a certain worksheet for a bit and even repeat it a few times before moving on.
If this is the case, you can just select that particular page to print in your print settings and not have to print out the whole set again.This might be especially helpful to keep in mind with lower elementary aged kids. Instead of asking them to complete several pages in a day, you might ask them to complete just one.
Generally, a full spelling curriculum packet should be able to be completed in a week. However, as the parent/guardian you have a good sense as to what is too much or too little and should adjust accordingly!
This set of words focuses on the phonograms “oi” and “oy“. It consists of 20 spelling words, 10 using “oi” and 10 using “oy.” These 20 words are a part of a bigger set in order to make a full spelling curriculum. You will find links to the other set of spelling words below.
Generally, these words are based at a 2nd or 3rd grade level. However, again, you as the parent should adjust all spelling curriculum to fit the needs of your child.

Word Search “oi”: This word search is not arbitrary. They are a tool to help your child’s brain focus and memorize what the words look like. Words may be found backwards and forwards, overlapping, and at times even sharing a letter. If they find it at all, it is valid. |

Word Search “oy”: The same rules apply. It’s okay if this takes some time for your child to find the words. This was designed to be challenging but doable. Let their brains train. |

Page 6 |
Here all of the spelling words are listed again but in mixed order. Have your child take their cut-out pencil and practice reviewing words again. They will be challenged on the next page to remember missing letters. Again, encourage them to review slowly. |

Page 7 |
Missing Letters: The spelling words are in the same order as the previous page, but letters are missing. The goal is for your child to not need to look back at the reference page. Encourage them to fill in as many letters as they can from memory. |

Page 8 |
It’s quiz time! You (parent/teacher) will need to call out spelling words and your child will need to write the words from memory in each blank square. It is okay if your child does not master this quiz perfectly the first time. If you see that they still need to work on these spelling words, print out one or two of the previous pages for more practice and then come back to this quiz. |
